Katoomba Charrette – Chapter 7: The Katoomba Charrette Outcomes Report 1999

In April 1999, the process ultimately culminated in a published summary document five months after the process had begun in October 1998. The document was entitled ‘Katoomba Charrette Outcomes Report and Town Centre Revitalisation Strategy – Defining Katoomba’s future’ (April 1999)‘. This was the cover page:
This substantial 133-page outcomes report represents a rare initiation project and participation by locals in holistic design of their future town centre. It is seminal document which set in train future changes of socio-cultural sentiment and awakening of the true values of the Blue Mountains region as a whole. It remains a vital grassroots community document of which the Blue Mountains community and indeed the Australian community should feel proud and inspired.
Defining Katoomba’s Future covered the following broad areas:
- Improving Katoomba Town Centre
- Improving transport and access
- Improving recreational, cultural and urban open space facilities
- Proposals for key sites
- Reviewing and reforming regulation to facilitate revitalisation
This became the final document ‘The Katoomba Town Centre Charrette of 1999‘
