(BOOK) Wayfaring in Wollemi – stories of people in wilderness

by Andy Macqueen, 2017

Andy Macqueen is an engineer, hydrologist, conservationist, bushwalker and an accomplished writer of Blue Mountains history. This is his fifth book.

Wayfaring in Wollemi celebrates the human side of wilderness. It presents the stories of 28 people: colonial explorers and surveyors, wanderers, cattlemen, would-be developers, adventurers and conservationists. For one reason or another they each spent a part of their life in the Wollemi, the largest declared Wilderness in New South Wales. What took them there and what did they get up to? Did the experience change their lives? In telling their stories, the author follows their footsteps through the gorges, over the mountains and into the hideaways. Along the way he weaves some of his personal story, revealing how he, like many of his subjects, has been touched by a landscape largely unaffected by transient modern society.
